Real Tennis. Real Return.
Psigma is delighted to support the Psigma Inter Livery Real Tennis Competition. The event, which will take place on Tuesday, 17th October at The Queen’s Club is the first of its kind. The event is the creation of three prominent Livery Company members and is designed to bring together Real Tennis competitors from the many Livery Companies in service today. It is also a perfect opportunity to raise awareness of the game among younger players, especially those without the chance to play this historic game.
Dating back to the 13th century, it is a blend of the cerebral and the physical; a game where subtlety and thought are more prized than brute strength and power. The sport is therefore unique in that someone in their late forties can consistently beat a 20-year-old at the highest level.
21 pairs from 24 Livery Companies have entered the competition. Players have been divided into two separate groups, Group A with 9 pairs and Group B with 12 pairs. Each group has been further divided into boxes of three pairs. Each pair will play the other two pairs in their box with the winner of the box going through to a semi-final.
Michael O’Dwyer, Clerk for The Worshipful Company of Brewers’ and member of the organising committee said:
“We are delighted to welcome Psigma’s support as principal sponsor for what we hope will become an annual event. Their presentation of the Psigma Real Return Racket, kindly donated by PlayBrave will provide a wonderful incentive for participants. Through this competition and our relationship with Psigma we look to maximise participation in this wonderful sport, both by Liverymen and the young. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our all our other sponsors for whom without their support the event could not have taken place: Pol Roger, Latimer Vintners & Fonseca Port.”
John Howard-Smith, CEO, Psigma Investment Management said:
“My interest in supporting this wonderful event stems not only from my personal interest in the game. I believe this is a wonderful opportunity to reinforce our commitment to providing real return investment solutions to Livery Companies with the kind of personal service not often afforded by larger institutions and banks now. Indeed, many of the team here are both trustees and Liverymen making us ideally placed to help the Companies meet their funding objectives for the future.”
