Katy Moore gives an insight into a week at MRM, giving all the gossip from her working week while highlighting what news has interested MRM over the past seven days
January is now in full swing and the festive period is all but a distant memory. At least we can take comfort in the fact that the weather has been unseasonably warm and almost pleasant.
On to the news, and the Leveson inquiry is back in full swing following the Christmas break. However, it appears the mood of Twitter spectators is starting to shift with accusations that the inquiry is not treating all defendants fairly. Roy Greenslade expressed the situation well in his column earlier this week.

MRM, the London-based financial services PR consultancy, has promoted Charlotte Banks and Katy Allison to the positions of senior account manager and account manager respectively.
Before joining MRM as an account manager in March 2011, Charlotte spent three years as a financial journalist, working across Professional Adviser, Investment Week and IFA Online and latterly as a financial analyst at Trustnet.
Katy Allison joined MRM in September 2010 as an account executive, having graduated from Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University with a first class honours degree in public relations.

Last year bore witness to the first person being convicted and sentenced under the UK’s new Bribery Act. Charlotte Banks looks at the act and how it will affect the relationship between financial service businesses and the financial press
In November 2011, Munir Yakub Patel, a court clerk from Redbridge Magistrates’ Court, was jailed for six years for requesting and receiving a bribe intending to improperly perform his functions under Section 2 of the Act after he accepted £500 in exchange for not entering details of a speeding charge onto the court system, thereby influencing the course of criminal proceedings. Although admitting to one count of bribery, the prosecution believe he earned more by helping other offenders.
Whilst the above case is not directly linked to the financial services or media industries, the sentencing is a stark warning to those involved that the law has got a lot tougher.
